A comprehensive ecological assessment of one of Egypt’s most important coastal lakes.
Lake El-Burullus supports fisheries, agriculture and surrounding communities at once — but the interactions between fish communities, water quality, aquatic plants and agricultural runoff were not well characterised.
Conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture at Kafr El-Sheikh University, the project offered a comprehensive ecological assessment of Lake El-Burullus, examining the interactions among fish communities, water quality, aquatic plants and surrounding agricultural inputs. AQUAVET contributed specialised expertise in fish health diagnostics, biodiversity assessment, and evaluating the impacts of agricultural runoff on aquatic life.
The project generated critical insights into the lake’s ecological balance, identified environmental stressors affecting productivity and fish health, and provided science-based recommendations for sustainable lake management and conservation.
