Egypt’s first digital tool for assessing and tracking tilapia welfare indicators on farms.
Welfare assessment existed on paper and in expert judgement, but not in a form a farmer could apply daily, record consistently, or act on without an advisor present.
AQUAVET led the development and testing of the Tilapia Welfare App — Egypt’s first digital tool for assessing and tracking tilapia welfare indicators on farms. The app enabled farmers to record data, receive automated alerts, and access practical guidance on welfare and management practices.
Testing workshops across multiple governorates demonstrated strong adoption potential, and also revealed a critical knowledge gap in farmers’ ability to interpret the water quality drivers behind welfare outcomes. These findings directly informed the design of the FAI Water Quality Study conducted the following year.
